A new RTÉ “Model” TV series starts screening on the 20th April 2009 on Ireland’s RTE Two channel.
The search for an Irish supermodel of the likes of Marisa Miller is the focus of this brand-new television series for RTÉ Two.
Auditions for a place on ‘The Model Agent’, a new RTÉ series which aims to find an Irish supermodel have been completed. The show will be aired on RTÉ Two and features the model scout Ellis, who famously spotted supermodel Erin O’Connor. It is searching for a talent with the high potential to be an international supermodel.
At the end of the auditions back in autumn 2008, a select few hopefuls went on to go to London for the next stage. A final selection will take place live on TV with the winners going on to New York, where one lucky model will take the prize of a contract with a London based model agency.
Now, Naomi, Cindy, Christy, Linda, Kate … supermodels really don’t need surnames to be recognised and the funny thing is that those whose job it is to discover supermodels don’t need first names. Without a doubt, Ireland’s teenagers with massive stars in their eyes will be rushing down and hurling themselves on to the catwalk in their hope to become the first winner of ‘The Model Agent with the aim to enter the glamorous world of a global supermodel.
About the Show and how they advertised? Here is what they said on their RTE website:
Have you got the look? Have you got the personality? If the answers are yes and yes, then a major international model scout is looking for you.
Erin O’Connor, Elizabeth Hurley, Lizzie Jagger, Iman and Helena Christensen are all represented by Independent Models in London. Could YOU be their next signing? Ellis’ mission is to scout Ireland for an Irish supermodel. Enough said to hype up all of Ireland’s aspiring wannabe teenage models?
But before one steps into a career in modelling, contenders might be very well advised to remove the rose-coloured spectacles and look at what supermodels have become. Supermodels knowingly don’t wake up for less than $10,000 and some of them regularly hit the headlines for throwing things at people or getting caught in drug taking offences with music rock star boyfriends. Underneath the whole modelling world glamour, the supermodel is not always a super role model.
We think that the cult of the supermodel is nothing more than media hype. Yes, Ireland has the potential to produce another international supermodel of the likes of Ruth O’Neill, but it is not recommended the route that some of the so-called supermodels have taken to get there’. Some put themselves through deprivation to meet ridiculous requests to be stick insects. We at PinUpreport.com always urge models, ‘Don’t compromise your health for the sake of a front page magazine cover.’

One Model Agency founder, Derek Daniels agrees. “If you have to diet, you’re not a model,” . “Either you have what it takes naturally by the age of 16 to 18, or you don’t.”
So what really does it take to be a supermodel? “Brains and beauty,” says Derek. “You have to have business acumen and personality. “This is a tuff and confined market and if clients don’t like you, they won’t book you, full stop”
We would advise anyone thinking of modelling as a career to take advice from some of the credible fashion and modelling industry experts. The big four players are Assets, First Option, Morgan, and Compton. They are able and will tell you the truth, if you can do either fashion or commercial work, or whether you have a future in modelling at all.”
RTE’s “The Model Agent” starts on RTE Two on April 20
