BERLIN – Germany. Well known supermodel Naomi Campbell last Friday hit out at what in her opinion is latent racism in the fashion world. It is clear to see that the fashion industry prefers “blond and blue-eyed models” over black women.
Campbell said in a Glamour Inteview appearing tomorrow in Germany: “You know, the American president may be black, but as a black woman, I am still an exception in this business. I always have to work harder to be treated equally”
“We as black woman had more opportunities for modelling in the past but the trend towards blond women has again become more extreme”. “Wherever I look, on the catwalk, in magazines, I see blond, blue-eyed models everywhere,” she added.
Back in 2007, the London-born Naomi, together with models Liya Kebede and Tyson Beckford, launched a campaign against discrimination in the fashion world.
